Be a builder

In the construction area the children can choose wooden blocks of varying shapes and sizes. The blocks are open-ended, which means they can be anything! As they build, the children are learning about shape and size, and problem solving as they construct. They can develop their own ideas, and play collaboratively to create large and complex structures. We add people, cars, animals etc to extend the play, and of course chalk and writing equipment for planning and messages!

The children expressed an interest in climbing and balancing inside. We fetched crates and planks from the outdoor construction for them to access. They put the crates together to balance on. Some children used the planks to send trains down.

Young children love to den! There is something really special about being in a small, me-sized space. Sometimes they build the dens, and sometimes we construct the dens for them. Then it’s up to the children how to use them…dens really develop that sense of imagination!
