Week 1 - Digital Art for Illustration

Lesson 1 - Create a postcard inspired by Scotland

What are we learning to do?

  • Use technology purposefully to create and manipulate a digital piece of artwork.
  • Recognise how technology is used beyond school (Photography helps us to remember places and find out how they have changed over time. Painting programs can be used to illustrate books quickly and easily and try out different ideas without starting from scratch.)

Look at the Postcard from The Jolly Postman

What to talk about

Explain what a postcard is-  It is a card sending a message by post without an envelope, typically having a photograph or other illustration on one side.

Look at the postcard the giant received. - Do you think the image on the front is a photograph or an illustration? How do you know/how can you tell? (Photographs are usually taken with a camera or device and are usually real. Illustrations are drawings of things real or imaginary.)

Talk about some of the characteristics you have learnt about Scotland. If you had to make a postcard for the Jolly Postman to send from Scotland, what would you put on it? (Scotland has many lakes or lochs, mountains, islands, rivers, railways etc. You could include the flag or symbols for Scotland. You could draw some of the famous landmarks you have been learning about.)
