Count it!
Maths is everywhere! We encourage the children to see patterns and numbers around the environment, and to count everything! In the maths area there are lots of resources to encourage counting, sorting, number recognition and ordering, as well as measuring and comparing. These often get transported to different areas!
Building with blocks. The children were trying to make a tower as tall as them! They used words such as “shorter, taller, higher and had a go at counting how many.
This was completely child initiated…friends playing with number cards.
Recognising numbers.
The children put their pictures on a number line at the beginning of the session. They are learning that the last number shows how many. Children often take an interest in this throughout the day.
