Create a poster or fact file to present your findings. |

If you use the internet to help you, write up the facts in your own words. Only copy facts you understand because when you show your poster in class, other children may ask you questions about your facts.

Friday 22nd October
Over the holidays please complete your fire safety plan if you haven't already.
Remember to read and record it in your reading record to earn housepoints.
We have sent home phonics folders with 2 additional sounds your children can complete over the holiday. Please get them to practice writing the sounds using joins if they have previously in their phonics folder.
Get them to sound the words out to you and talk about the meaning of any new words.
Draw a picture at the bottom of something that has that sound in. e.g. if the sound was ar you could draw a park.
Friday 7th October
This week, we have been writing instructions for how to put on a PE Kit.
Your homework this week is to work with a grown up to read and follow the instructions given to make a paper aeroplane.
You could also write some instructions for how to decorate your aeroplane on the lined paper.
Please bring it in on Monday 17th October.
Homework due 7.10.16
(This is only for those who wish to be on the school council. )
At the end of next week (7.10.16) the children in the class will vote for 1 school councillor. If your child would like to be on the school council they need to write a short speech explaining who they are and why they think they would be a great school councillor.
The children will give their speeches on Friday so please rehearse them for them and the class vote will be final.
You may help your child with this task although we recommend that they use their own words to help them to learn and read it. They stand a better chance of getting votes if their audience, who are their own age, understand the words in it.
Note - Please remind your child that only one person can be chosen even though they may all make super councillors.

Phonics folders
In class your child is assessed on a daily basis on their ability to segment and blend the words in their phonics folder by an adult. They also have the opportunity to practice spelling these words together. Their spellings are marked on the back of their sheet.
Every Friday their phonics folder is sent home so your child can share the sounds covered over the week and embed the sounds they have been learning about.
Note – you and your child may write on the phonics folder when you are doing work together at home. Any spellings they practice with you can be written on the back of their sheet.
Phonics - Marking Explained

At school words which have been ticked in pencil are words your child has indicated that they can both read and explain the meaning of. Words ticked in pen clarify that your child is able to read them. Some word meanings will be checked but we are unable to check every word for every individual during the phonics session.
At home encourage your child to show off their reading ability with the harder words if most are ticked or revisit words with a dot.
To boost their spelling further, choose a couple of the words for them to spell and get them to write them on the back of the sheet. Alternatively ask your child to trace the sounds on your back for you to guess or play games such as hangman.

At school, words which have been circled indicate words your child may be able to read but they do not yet know the meaning of. These may be circled by your child or by the teacher/TA. To gain familiarity with these words it would be helpful if children could go through the meaning of these words again at home. Can they say them in a sentence to show they understand the word?

At school words with a dot/no tick next to them are words which your child has not yet secured yet during their daily phonics session. It would be beneficial for your child to practice sounding these out at home.
