Mamma Mia - ABBA (with lyrics)

This term in Music the children are listening to some of the works of ABBA. We are focusing on the song Mama Mia. The children are learning to sing the song and play the glockenspiel.

This year in Music the children will be learning to play the Ukulele. They will start in September and continue until February.

Week 1

SUGAR

This week we have worked on musicality. Musicality means understanding all aspects of music: the listening, the playing, the appreciating. Musicality is the developing ability to interpret the sounds, symbols, rhythms, emotions etc of a piece of music. The week the children focused on creating and following a beat within a piece of music. They used their voices, bodies and then incorporating these with a piece of equipment.

Week 2

This week explored the relationship between beat and rhythm. We used chants and songs to do this. The children were amazing at this and even moved on to use the Kodaly method. We looked at the rhythmic symbols and used the correct phrases.

Week 3

Week 4

This week the children were introduced to the chord box. They talked about how it worked and started to recognise and use the C chord. They Played the C chord in time to a song.

Week 5

The children did an amazing job of remembering last weeks learning and could all remember where the C chord is on the ukulele and how to use it. The children explored the chord box further looking at the Am chord. They used the Am chord to play the song the children had played last week.
