On Tuesday 22nd October 2019, local land artist James Brunt came to work with the Reception and Nursery children. He inspired the children to create natural outdoor art.
The children were encouraged to notice and search for the beautiful, colourful natural resources that the season of autumn provides.
James worked with the children to create a spiral. They all thoroughly enjoyed the process of collecting the natural resources.
James was amazed with the children. He was impressed that children of 3, 4 and 5 years old had demonstrated such concentration, perseverance and team working skills. He also loved how resourceful some children were - some children had figured out that if they took their coats off and filled them with leaves, they could carry more.
Children were inspired to go home and create their own artwork in their garden.
James believes that creating art from nature is a meditative process and can have a positive impact on our wellbeing. During the process your mind is clear and you focus on and connect with the environment around you – our children and staff certainly had a great day and we all went home feeling happy, calm and proud of achievements. We were all in a positive state of mind!
The end product was stunning and lots of parents stopped to look at our masterpiece.
We took photographs to create a lasting image and memory of our artwork. Then we left our artwork to return to nature by the natural elements of the wind and rain.
