Phonics

We teach phonics daily in Year 1 and children use their phonics when reading and writing. We will send phonics folders home with practice sheets for you to do with your child. This will reinforce what we are teaching in school and give your child an additional opportunity to apply what they have learnt. Children are also encouraged to read as often as possible and this is a great opportunity for phonics to be reinforced.

Below you will find the Alphabetic Code chart which shows the codes as we teach them in school and a website where you will find phonics games to play on a computer with your child.

It's not long until the National Phonics Screening test. We have been working really hard on learning the sounds and identifying them in words. Please keep practising!

We love phonics so much we even do it during choosing time!

Some children are doing so well with their reading and their phonics that they want to read the story to the class at home time!

What a brilliant re-telling of 'Room on the Broom'. Lots of expression and animation - well done!

We had a fantastic retelling of the book "Do not open this book!"
