Phonics & Reading

We know that lots of you are wanting to help your child with phonics at home but are worried about 'getting it right' ... we wanted to reassure you that any resources (Twinkl, Teach your Monster to Read) that include Phase 2, 3 or 4 sounds are supporting and embedding your child's phonics learning.

CBeebies Alphablocks have produced a phonics guide for parents, breaking it down step-by-step and explaining the key vocabulary.

The phonics scheme we use in school is Phonics International. If you would like to use this at home with your child there are a range of free resources online, the link below will take you to a brief introduction to phonics and the  scheme.

This term at school the children would be learning these sounds in Unit 3 (please note Phonics International uses units that have a different arrangement to the Letters and Sounds phases) Click here to hear the Unit 3 sounds

These are the phonics sheets we use in school. In school we teach two sounds a week, spending one day learning the sound and the next day completing the sheet. Please don't feel any pressure to do this at home... work through them at your child's own pace. There are also games to support each of these sounds on Spelling Shed 💻

The Department for Education has funded ‘Letters and Sounds for Home and School.’

During the summer term, you will be able to access for your child a daily phonics lesson by clicking on the image below. All lessons are introduced by celebrities, including children’s TV presenters, which adds an exciting addition to the lessons. A new phonics lesson will be uploaded everyday, Monday to Friday, at the times below during the summer term. *After upload, each lesson will then be available to watch at any time during the summer term.
