Supporting Children's Mental Health

Hi!

My name is Mrs Webster and I am our school's Mental Health Co-ordinator. You can usually find me in the Year 3 building.

I am one of the people in school who may spend time with you if you need help with your mental health. My role includes talking to you, your parents, your teachers and other people who can all work together to support you.

The links, videos and documents below have been put together to help you, should you feel that you need some support with your mental health.

Do you feel that you need some additional support for your child? Please complete this referral form and pass it on to your class teacher.

Mindful Colouring

Mindful colouring is about bringing our awareness into the present moment by consciously focusing on colour and design. Instead of the formal practice of focussing on the breath, you bring your focus to the weight of the pencil in your hand, the shade of colours on your paper, and the feelings you experience throughout.

Self-esteem Guide

Self-esteem is the opinion your child will have of themselves. A child with a healthy self-esteem will tend to be more positive about themselves and life in general.   Please take a look at this two-page guide to supporting children with their self-esteem. It includes helpful suggestions about how to build self-esteem, to help to make them feel proud.

Mindfulness for children

By teaching children meditation and mindfulness skills we help them increase their well-being and enable them to meet the stresses of the world with presence, self-compassion, and openness.

Mindfulness meditation, at its simplest, is paying attention to what is happening in the present moment. It may be what you’re feeling, hearing, or anything else you notice. There’s no special place of calm you have to reach and it’s not about clearing your mind, it’s just an honest and kind look at what you’re experiencing in this moment.

Mindfulness Meditation

This mindfulness meditation for kids helps children learn how to better relax, focus on their breathing, become aware of body sensations, reduce stress, and let go of worries or anxiety from their busy days. By practicing this mindfulness meditation regularly, children can improve their overall health, boost their positive brain functions, and enjoy the benefits of reducing stress levels for better concentration and well-being daily.
