English – The lighthouse

 

Today we will be looking at Formal and informal language because this will help use when writing our newspaper article.

 

What is Formal language?

 

Formal language is the language we use in professional, official and impersonal situations. It is used when we need to be serious, when we don’t know our audience personally and when the topic is important.

 

We will be using formal language in our newspaper articles.

 

Task 1:

 

Wednesday worksheet 1 (Lighthouse Resource 3a) shows examples of sentences written in a Formal and informal way. Complete the last four boxes to make formal sentences.

 

Task 2:

 

Next, choose one of the letters from Wednesday worksheet 2 (Lighthouse Resource 3b) and re-write the letter using formal language and sentence structures.

Science – Properties of materials

 

This week, you will be looking at the materials used in different objects and what properties each material has which are useful for the purpose.

 

 Task 1

 

Firstly, complete Science worksheet 1 (properties definitions). Match the definitions to the properties and write it next to the word. You could use Google or a dictionary to help you if you are stuck.

 

Task 2

 

Next, complete Science worksheet 2. Find three objects from around your house which are made from different materials. Examine these objects and complete the table.
