My Hands

This week the theme is all about hands! We can do so much with our hands, and I'm sure you can thinks of lots of things, but here are a few to get you started...

  • draw around your hands. Make sure you stay close to your fingers. Then cut them out. It's tricky! But scissor practise is really good!
  • you can then use your hands for lots of different things, including..

-measuring.How many hand prints tall are you? What about your grown ups? How many hand prints high is the door? How many hand prints long is the floor in your room?

-decorate your hand. Colour in your nails!

-use your cut out hands to make flowers, or different animals. Can you make a hand dog?Or an elephant? What about a dinosaur? or a hand print superhero?

-make a hand print rainbow

-design a hand print picture with the hand prints of your family

  • make a salt dough hand print. For the salt dough you will need...

-1 cup of flour

-1 cup of salt

-half a cup of water

  • you could make up different or secret handshakes with your grownups or other family. You have to remember the special handshake every time you are with them! Can they remember it too?
  • play "One Potato". Make your hands into fists and put your fist on top of your grown ups as you say "One potato, two potato, three potato four, five potato, six potato, seven potato more!" Keep taking the bottom fist and putting it on the top. Get faster!
  • use your fingers to pick up pieces of pasta, grains of rice, pennies and coins. Great for that pincer grip!
  • use pegs to pick things up. This strengthens hands and fingers. Hang out the washing!
  • make some finger puppets with paper and glue or sticky tape.Or draw little faces on your fingers
  • make some fingerprint animals and people-use paint to make fingerprints and then add details

Make some play dough if you have the ingredients

-2 cups of flour

-3/4 cup of salt

-2 cups of warm water

-3 tablespoons of lemon juice OR 4 teaspoons of cream of tartare

-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
