Then play guess the animal.

Insects- Key Facts

  • They do not have a backbone so they are called invertebrates. 

  • Have 2 antennae

  • Their bodies have 3 parts - the thorax, the abdomen and the head

  • Three pairs of legs

  • Cold blooded

  • Most hatch from eggs

  • Most live on land but some live in fresh water. They aren't usually found in the ocean. 

  • Insects have their skeletons on the outside, with their soft parts inside. That makes it hard for them to grow. Every time they want to become bigger, they have to break out of their skin and swell up to their new size before their new skin hardens. This is called molting.

Birds are vertebrates because they do have a backbone. 

Birds have hollow bones to help them to fly

Birds have wings

Most birds can fly or could once fly. Penguins cannot fly now but can run, jump, swim, and dive

Birds have feathers 

Birds lay eggs

Birds are warm-blooded

Birds can be huge like an ostrich or small like a hummingbird. 

They live in many different habitats - on ice, on land, in water etc.

nervous, quiet, noisy, elegant, beady-eyed, dangerous, wild, greedy, fat, suspicious, mischievous, daring, swift, shy, musical, graceful, wise, exotic, calm, proud, confident, cute.
