In some regions the 'a' sounds like 'ar' e.g. people pronounce 'bath' and 'plant' in different ways.

The most foolproof example I can give in terms of pronunciation in Derbyshire is 'banana'.

In some words the 'a' can make the same sound as 'o' for example 'was', 'want', 'what' or 'swap' .
