Exercise is important for many different reasons. It helps us to stay fit and well, it helps our brains grow, it strengthens the muscles in our bodies and it helps us to sleep.

Find out how to feel your pulse under your chin or on your wrist. Is it going fast or slow? You could count how many in a minute with your grown up.

Try some of the exercises or challenges here.

Feel for your pulse again. You could count how many in a minute with your grown up again and compare it to last time.

Do we only get older on our birthdays?

Have a go at ordering the life stages of a human and other animals using this online game.

https://stormedapps.co.uk/lifestages/lifestages.html

Make your own timeline or diagram about how we change as we grow up or use the worksheet at the bottom of this webpage.

PSHE lesson 4

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/team-player-6mrpcd

Science lesson 4 - How do we change as we grow up?

If you have them, find 3-4 photos of yourself at different ages. Look at the photos together and talk about how you changed as you got older. If you don't have any you could use the staff photos on the 'guess the baby quiz' here

https://www.highfieldhall.derbyshire.sch.uk/weekly-staff-challenge/

You could ask your child to order the selection of photos from youngest to oldest.

Have a look at a selection of photos of your child from when they were a baby to now. Draw a timeline and ask them to draw the changes at the different ages.

PSHE lesson 4 - Belonging

Sit together in a comfortable space.

Discuss what it means to “belong” somewhere. -

Explain to your child that when we belong, we feel safe, loved, and heard.

Explain to your child that you are going to create a very special belonging branch today.

If you have a garden go on a hunt for a stick or branch together.

Explain that the branch is important because it helps you remember a special memory you had with your family.

Cover a flat surface (e.g. table or floor) with newspaper and place the following materials on the newspaper: branch, paint, paint brushes, trays, and paper.

Help your child paint their hand with the paintbrush and paint and create their handprint on the paper. If you don't have paint just draw round your hand on the paper instead. Do the same with every member of your family. Assist your child in washing their hand(s).

As the handprints dry, cut out varying sizes of string. Encourage your child to help cut the string if they are able to do so safely. This improves their fine motor development.

Once the handprints are dry, allow your child to help write the names of the family members on the handprints. Cut the handprints out and use a hole puncher to create a hole at the top of each handprint.

Encourage your child to assist you as you put the twine through the handprints. Tie knots to keep the handprints in place.

Next, hang the handprints on the branch. After your belonging branch is complete, discuss some of your favourite things about each member of your family (e.g., Harper is kind, mommy makes me laugh, etc.)

PSHE lesson 5

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/community-care-c9gp6t

Science lesson 5

Fold a sheet of A4 paper into 4 and unfold it again. In each corner of the paper draw one way we can maintain good hygiene. e.g. brush your teeth, wash your clothes, shower/bathe, wash your hands with soap thoroughly etc. Talk  to your child about things you have to do to maintain good hygiene e.g. cleaning, not putting hands in mouth etc.

PSHE lesson 5

Discuss the following questions together

-Tell me about a time you have been on a team.

-What are some things that teams can do together?

-How can someone be a good team member?

-Do you have a favourite sports team? How do they work together as a team?

-There is a saying that there is no “I” in teamwork. What does that mean?
