Common Exception Words to Read and Spell
Here is the list of words that your child should be able to read and spell by the end of Y1 .
They are called Common Exception Words because they are common words and the spelling of them breaks the phonics rules they know at this age. (They’re exceptions to the phonics rules). Alongside those, they should be able to use phonics to read and write a range of words.
